Having a premature baby, is probably one of the bravest things I have done.
I’m Beverley Salt.
Chartered marketer, specialising in B2B content creation and the Founder of Add Salt.
I am also mum of two children, age 13 and 11.
Having a premature baby, is probably one of the bravest things I have done.
When pregnant with my youngest, I received a voicemail message from my midwife saying that they had discovered protein in my urine, I checked myself into an after-hours medical centre and suspected that I might have had a kidney infection. After seeing a doctor, she sent me straight to the labour ward at the hospital and wished me luck. The midwife checked my blood pressure… then said the machine must be out of order and got another monitor. The second (similar) reading confirmed dangerously high blood pressure, and before long, a bunch of doctors rushed in. I was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia told that I would need to have the baby right away. I was 28 weeks pregnant.
The neonatal doctor said she would have an 80% chance of survival.
My daughter was born 12 weeks premature, she weighed 1 lb 12 ounces.
13 years later, she has blossomed into a beautiful, happy (mostly) and healthy teenager and she’s now the same height as me.
Reflecting back, on my ‘brave’ I realise it’s been over three years since I started my own business ‘Add Salt’.
I was made redundant during the global pandemic and there were very few jobs around.
Going self-employed had been on my mind for a while, but this was the push I needed to get out of my comfort zone. Professionally and personally, it has been the best decision I have ever made. As I still work for the same clients as when I started, I’d like to think they enjoy working with me and that I add value to their business.
One decision I made early on, was joining MiMs membership.
Having a network that I trust makes it less lonely. If I had an issue or had a bad day, I know I have a supportive and friendly community to chat to. There is no community like it, no judgement, no bull shit. Just pure honesty. I love being a part of it.
Finally, I am sharing my musical choices 🙂
I’m definitely stuck in the same music era, I love 90s music especially indie and rock, Stone Roses, Embrace, Smashing Pumpkins.
Please do connect with me, to talk marketing music or being brave 🙂
