Guide: Chat GPT

Chat GPT

History of Chat GPT

Key ChatGPT Milestones

  • Publicly launched in November 2022
  • Within five days, ChatGPT amassed over 1 million users, making it one of the fastest-growing consumer software launches ever
  • Just two months after launch it had reached 100 million users
  • As of September 2025, ChatGPT has reached 800 million weekly active users
  • Users are now sending over 1 billion prompts per day (as of 2025)

Privacy Considerations

Privacy is often a concern with ChatGPT.

Just a few months ago, a court ordered OpenAI to indefinitely preserve ChatGPT conversations, even those deleted, across consumer plans, unless users are on enterprise plans or Zero Data Retention (ZDR) API endpoints.

OpenAI is currently appealing this order.

Image Generation (DALL·E 3) – Create visuals from short prompts. (Image editing is Team + Enterprise only)

Deep Research – Paste long content or links and get a digestible summary. Often used automatically inside ChatGPT Agents.

Web Search (Agent-enabled) – Pulls in articles, examples, or citations. Often behind the scenes during multi-step tasks.

Canvas (Beta – Desktop only) – Write and edit inside a live doc, like Google Docs, but smarter. For writing, not visual layouts (yet).
